Doctor-X

Out of boredom, I picked this drama to watch yesterday and partly also due to curiosity after reading the high rating finale episode... and I finished the whole series at one go (8 hours straight). So, what the X factor that made me glue to TV on Sunday besides my laziness to touch my work?

Doctor-X in my opinion is somewhat similar to Team Medical Dragon in terms of theme. The story revolves around the genius surgeon in the setting of ugly university hospital politics. The differences are the lead is female, kakkoii and sexy at the same time, works as a contractor, doesn't want to meddle in the things that don't require medical license, which totally go against the norm in the university hospital. Off course her attitude throws off the upper hospital management and definitely the nosy office manager (she's Aiba-chan's mama in My Girl, love her acting here, hehe). Her colleagues also despise/look down/hate her guts and attitudes towards work and patients, especially when she blatantly challenge the medical procedure to be used for the surgery case during the pre-surgery conference. So, how Michiko is going to survive in this environment?

Definitely she's surviving because she's protected by her contract, AND she never fails. I seriously love the way she said 'I never fail' as a matter of fact and in absolute confidence. True to her words, she always delivers even to the point she could make a hero of the fellow doctor and at the same time learn the surgery technique of that doctor. Off course, she's not alone fighting on the battlefield. Behind her, there's a team of uncles in her house who seem to be only playing mahjong all the time but happily beat Michiko on every single game. But don't be fooled, those uncles are doctors themselves. In fact the one who acts as Michiko's manager, as cunning as he is, is a great doctor himself.

What I like about this drama is that this drama has a very neat and sharp storyline. It doesn't spin around the politics. Instead it's just literally shows us the ugly side of the politics and how it affects the whole hospital and how one deemed as a problem doctor could change the whole team of doctor's perspective towards the industry itself. They also touch the clashing ideas of treating patience as doctor, strictly honest in diagnosing the illness and not prioritizing the patients' emotion versus turning medical field to serve towards service industry where patients' wishes takes precedence.

Totally recommend this drama for a short marathon and it'll totally open up a topic to discuss if you're not watching it alone ;)

And one last thing to mention, Yonekura-san is totally hot and sexy! And I wish my legs are that slim and long! She looks fabulous with those mini skirts and boots!
