My Arashi Drama Rating part 1

The list is purely subjective. Those are not in this list would mean I haven't watched them or I haven't finished them or I dropped them or I just don't have much or enough opinion about them.

My J-Drama List

It's good that I was asked about Drama List because honestly I lost track of what I've watched. I just list down what I can find on my HDs and what I remembered watching. I only include what I finished, so those half way and drop are not in this list. I just mention once for those who has Season 1, 2, 3 plus SP plus movie, whichever. You can google them and it'll include the whole franchise :).

I used to watch K-drama too and I think that list is also long, but... I'm not in K-drama land anymore...
I put in the cut because I just realize that it's... LONG... )

I won't update this so often, maybe at the end of the year LOL...

I'm still alive...

Just an FYI. I'm MIA due to work (off course, what else?) and getting into the realm of personal project (quite excited about it, I'll share it in due time, but before that lots of effort needed, hence it'll take my time watching drama away).

In anyhow, the dramas that I'm watching now (yes, miraculously I'm still watching some):
Criminal Minds - I'm taking this really extra slow because I can't stomach the stress that comes after watching each episode. It gets my brain to think and ponder harder and I don't have the capacity for this right now.
Code Blue S3 - LOVE THIS. Well, I'm a fan of Code Blue franchise as a whole, and they're going to get a movie next year! Finally, FujiTV realize that they can make better money than just running an SP. But it better be a good story and epic rescue case because the SP years ago already had the colossal case.
Temperature of Love - I like Seo Hyun Jin, so that's why I watch this right away. It seems that it's going to be just like the typical K-drama, but hey, we have Ahn Jae Wook there... yumm...
Live Up to Your Name - I put on hold of this after episode 2, the lady character is hateful towards TCM for not a good enough reason, it's more for resentment and spite rather than not believing TCM for the different approach from the Western medicine.

And then I'm also watching the variety show 3 Meals A Day because... the food! For this season, they got too much upgrade, in my opinion that I kind of miss the previous season when they don't have too many ingredients and gadgets and yet still producing yummy food.

4-Go Keibi Epi 1, Saiyuki

4-Go Keibi Epi 1

Finally 1 J-drama that doesn't irk me upon watching 1st episode. It's been awhile. I don't think it's a spectacular drama, but at least this one draw my attention and keep me on the screen throughout the whole episode. Having 30min length help as well, I guess. Instead of the detectives or police, now we have bodyguard drama. But you know when it's bodyguard drama, we're often shoved by the potential romance plot eg. Boku to star no 99 nichi or manxman (I'm just pushing it here, coz the secret agent is posing as bodyguard here). Don't get me wrong, it's not that such plot is bad, but kind of tiring. So when we have a bodyguard duo just doing their job and the drama involves their client and how these 2 helped their client while guarding their lives, it's somewhat refreshing. I think more points on this drama is on both Kubota & Kitamura's chemistry. I maybe biased since I like both of them haha... anyways, at last something that I can tune in (waiting for the subs)...

Meanwhile, Saiyuki is finally here!!! I lost count how long the wait is, no matter, it's coming, I can taste it! I really hope nobody convert this into a live action. I mean, the musical is fantastic, but live action? Maybe too much unless they can magically do a nice CGI for all the badassery from the anime. I may sway though if they have Fukuyama Masaharu as Sanzou? LOL

Random Rambling...

This is bad, basically I've been working over weekends and stressing over silly or not so silly things. I was literally not myself when I was at the grocery store today and just randomly picking things up without thinking of how to assemble later. And worse, I haven't been watching drama like before. Nothing seems to be interesting, or what it does seem interesting soon come out bland, hence the slowness in picking up new episodes.

For J-drama, I tried:
CRISIS - I like this one but it's getting darker by each episode, it's like being good doesn't mean that you can change the world. And basically the team is working protecting the scumbags of important people, sad. I'll watch this very very slowly.
Boku, Unmei no Hitodesu - Not even finishing 1 episode. It's bloody damn boring. The marriage propaganda is shoved to your throat right from the get go and the idea of fate and destiny seems forceful to the point of wtf. Is it so hard to have the beautiful notion of fate and destiny in a drama nowadays? The only saving grace in this drama is how good looking Yamapi is in here :p.
Frankenstein no Koi - The first episode is interesting, and I like Ayano Go's portrayal of Frankenstein here, BUT the girl is bloody damn annoying.
Kizoku Tantei - Tried 1st episode, it's completely an obligatory watching, I don't even think I can finish this though. It's equivalent to Mikeneko, only Mikeneko is worse.
Kinkyuu Torishirabeshitsu S2 - I like the first episode, the twist and turn of the case is interesting, and Mokomichi is eye candy as ever :). Definitely will continue this, though I find S1 is still better (but are all drama like this anyway? LOL)
Anata no Koto wa Sore Hodo - So J-drama has no more variation other than marriage propaganda or extra marital affair? What happen with the nice phase of slowly built up romance? Non existance anymore? Seriously? We even have Hirugao the movie this year, it's refreshing at first, but it's damn cliche now, BORING.

For K-drama:
My Secret Romance - ah, I want to write a full write up on this one, so I'll hold my words for now. Basically this is my fave for this season.
Suspicious Partner - I skipped a lot, not gonna lie, but the OTP is precious, so will keep on watching.
ManxMan - It's funny at first, but the latter episode seems draggy, probably will continue once it's finished, which is ... soon.
Ruler: Master of the Mask - I'll wait after the drama is finished so that I can skip all those old man scheming scenes, really, don't need to watch all these stress inducing scenes. and... don't tell me Yo Seung Ho character will die at the end, ha!
Whisper - I follow this on and off, but it's ok, not so bad, except for some stupidity that I can't stomach.
Tunnel - I'm still at episode 13, seems can't move past this, the mood to watch this died after Kwang Ho went back to the past.

OK, I think I'm going to snooze again...

Spring 17 J-drama Fest...

As we're going into new fiscal year... seems that this year I'll be in for more work, more stress, more white hair, and TONS more travelling (I don't really like this one, though mostly I'll be using SQ and raking up those Krisflyer mileage). Enough of the bleak prospect of my 2017, we're finally blessed with the regular Arama compilation drama list.

And my wish list (if the stress level and mood allow me to consume more because right now I prefer fluffy and pretty stuffs with TONS of eye candies):
CRISIS - for the very obvious reason (Shun Oguri & Nishijima Hidetoshi).
Kizoku Tantei - I still feel that this will be more of obligatory watching, though I always have hope for Aiba-chan to be blessed with a good drama and I have a thing with Aiba-chan with black hair...
Hanzai Shokogun - I'll watch this only if it has subs. It's been a very long while since the last time I saw Tanihara on my screen.
Boku, Unmei no Hito desu - I'm waiting for Code Blue, but I take this because Yamapi looks good here (so long he doesn't have crying or emotionally exhausting scenes, he's OK hahaha). Very very skeptical on the drama itself though. And kept on thinking that Yamapi was downgraded over Kame (in Nobuta it's more of equal stand of male leads, but in here he's like the supporting)...
Haha ni Naru - seems interesting, but I think I'll cry buckets watching this one, sigh...
Frankenstein no Koi - the premise is interesting, but I dunno... I like Ayano Go, but not all his works are my cup of tea, so... again, very skeptical
Chiisana Kyojin - Hail TBS!! I think this one will be good. Well, I like this kind of drama anyway, but I'd need subs.
Anata no Koto wa Sore Hodo Not sure, but I'll just put it here first haha...
Kinkyuu Torishirabeshitsu S2 My first thought is WHY NOT BOSS S3!!! OK, nevermind, I still like the season 1, and Amami Yuki slays here too, but I want her kicks ass like BOSS, sigh, wistful thinking.
4-go Keibi will watch only if we have subs...

wow, quite long eh? but 60% is police or heavy stuff, and the rest of 20% is also potentially heavy human drama... my brain not going to process anything without subs, brain shut down literally after working hours, so we'll see... meanwhile I still have current k-drama list:

Chicago typewriter - watched first 2 episode, quite good, it has Goblin vibe, but it's not as catchy, probably will wait for more episodes
My Secret Romance - this is just pure guilty pleasure, come on, that hot scene at the end of epi 1?
Whisper - also wait for more episode because after 2 episodes, I feel SBS is going to make the guy super stupid like what happened in Romantic Doctor, ha!
Mystery Queen - watching this just because of Kwon Sang Woo (my early k-drama crush), but the ahjuma MIL is getting on my nerves, again, wait for more episodes so that I can press fast forward LOL.

A life ~ Kanashiki Hito

Just finished this one, finally! And just to clarify and get over with, this is a HUMAN drama, no romance, nope zero romance. So don't ever ever hope that you'll see the Pride couple ship sails, nope, wrong drama. Obviously the objective of this drama is completely different and I'd be much happier if this is clearly stated from the get go so that I can set my expectation correctly. Hmmph!

Don't get me wrong, this is a good drama, probably the best on in this season. Well, if you're looking at the rest which is more like romcom attempts but come out as marriage propaganda drama, this one is the one comes close to the real drama. You can rely on TBS for a good drama (well, at least their high profile one for the season). Kimutaku still got it, he's really Okita sensei here, the idealist doctor who never give up and obviously believes in good of everybody, literally. He didn't even bear grudges when he found out that his best friend actually sabotaged him to steal his girl friend by shipping him to Seattle. He used it as the opportunity and got back as a much better surgeon and that alone already wrecked havoc his so-called best friend's self esteem. I don't know how much noble idiocy he got that he could always see the good in everything, it's just unreal. And you probably better off shipping Okita-sensei with scalpel instead of with Mifuyu, sobs!

This drama has a very good phase, it's building, but it doesn't slow down and it even offers you so many different kinds of site story such as the bitchy lawyer's past catching up with her. But the overall story doesn't give you that 'OMG I need the next episode NOW!' vibe, well, you can see that I just happily waiting for the subs and made zero attempt in watching RAW, so yeah, it's that kind of drama that you can watch leisurely.

My only problem is only with Masao (the best friend) character. To be honest, I kind of disappointed that he practically got away with all the shits and stunts that he'd pulled. For goodness sake, he tried to kill off his father in law in the first episode that everybody seems to just glaze over with, and at the end he got EVERYTHING, and Okita? Well, the drama just pointed out that he decided his own path and went with it (that idealist + noble idiocy part of him... it's admirable and frustrating at the same time). If we argue that Masao had it bad since young, starting with the high expectation from daddy, Okita also had it bad, his dad constantly comparing him with Masao, so that doesn't make it that it's OK to pull all those shits. The drama tries to make it as if he tried to save Mifuyu by bringing Okita but later on he's taking Okita's procedures and saying he's going to do it... but the first thing that came out to my mind is, OMG he's trying to KILL Mifuyu, NO! That's how much dodgy this Masao character is to me despite what the drama tries to convey.

What about Mifuyu? To me, her character is just 101% full of goodness that I find it surreal. She has full trust towards everybody near her, didn't even realize that her husband is screwing that bitchy lawyer, and that's probably the result of being loved by everybody as well. She's also an idealist like Okita, but with daddy as the back up. Family is her number one priority, not really the husband, the daughter. Heck she got more scenes with the daughter than probably alone time scene with Masao. And her most memorable scene with a male is with Okita-sensei, when she was freaking out and scared upon finding out about the tumour (yes, I find that it's the best scene throughout the whole drama).

Aside from the characters and all, this drama also brought up the issues with general public conception towards doctors and hospital. One, operation must be successful. Yes, off course that's the expectation of any medical practitioner as it's their occupation and they're handling humans' lives, but I don't understand the underlying expectation that you cannot fail or only do the procedure when it's a certain success *cough* 100% aka zettai naoshimasu or in english definitely curable (cured after operation). There're always chances of failure, anything can happen in that operating table and yes, I believe doctors will do their best (there're lots of doctors who are not and purposely semi fail the ops so that they can get more money, and yes these types exist and it's disgusting), but I also believe that they're humans, not GOD, and that's why we have liability insurance for doctors! The other one is the notion that doctors only treat the rich people. It's true in a certain sense, especially in countries where health insurance or health subsity is not prominant and you literally must have tons of cash in your savings when the illness hits you. I like how Okita address this issue with the kid that every doctor would try their best to save their patients, it's making this drama more humane (well it's human drama, that's why). But this at the same time downplays the fact that medical treatments, especially those with terminal illness, require money.

Despite all this, I'd still think this drama is much better executed than Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim. The sole reason is that there're less extreme cases in this drama, only difficult procedures and more realistic issues with your judgement eg. whether you thoroughly examine breast cancer on a 14 years old or you assume that a 14 year old is not yet of age to have a breast cancer. Whereas Romantic Doctor is throwing all the shits from epi 1, from the shitty hospital politics to the extreme cases of terror and epidemic and they also like to play the karma card. Very different approach and take for the same medical themed drama so it's up to your preference which one you'd like better. The side reason is that this drama doesn't have a STUPID character that take 13 episodes to get his shit together.

Remakes, remakes, remakes

Having almost to no drama to watch (yes, it's that much drama I've been watching lately) makes me end up with mindless browsing on drama thumbnails, both j-drama and k-drama. Upon browsing those, I realize, there're more and more cross remakes happening between Chinese, Korean and Japanese, whether it's drama converted to drama or movie converted to drama vice versa. First we have the live-action from manga to drama/movie, then on top of that there's these remakes. The remakes has been happening since years ago, and it creates kind of an excitement and curiousity especially if the original is that good, will the remake be as good or even better? But just like its live-action counterpart, seems that I've been hearing remakes more often now, compare to years ago. What happened? Does the industry getting lazzier and just want to get quick ideas and cash in? It's still a gamble despite the original being mega successful (side eyeing a certain drama, you know which one). So below is just some example that I can think of, you know how lazy I am to do extra research to find out ALL remakes across 10 years? Please don't expect me to do this, I still have to use my brain to prepare for workshop & training materials (RL sucks), and this is just for fun and healing therapy for me.

Here we go.. )

A life ~ Kanashiki Hito Epi 1-5

Let me just let it out first, this is probably the most worth of your time drama for Winter 2017 season. Will it go to the classic bucket? Most likely no, come on, who are we kidding, we have PRIDE, Long Vacation, Love Generation and the whole bunch of other Kimutaku drama that has the J-drama charms in full blast. But, does Kimutaku still have it? YES, he still got it. It's more subtle now because of the theme and storyline but you can see it in his eyes, that yearning!

Epi 1 is honestly rather boring because they just basically laying out the background and the set up, but I have some faith in Kimutaku, so I stay. Okita sensei came back to Tokyo after 10 years in Seattle with a badass surgery skill and also still with the don't care of the world attitude (pretty much like Kiryu in Hero but without the eccentric mode and more serious, and look more like Daimon Michiko without the ittashimasen and shippaishinaide iconic remarks). Awaiting in Tokyo is the sick former boss who he has to save, ex girlfriend now married with his 'best friend' (we'll get to that later), and the whole team of surgeon who actually err, not really fond of him, except for 1 nurse who is damn impressed with his mad skill.

So, up until epi 5, we see character development on practically each of those in the main casting list aka the rest of the main casting background story, what made them become that way, except for Okita, Mifuyu. Well, we get to see glimpses of how a greedy asshole Masao is. He already shipped Okita to Seattle, snatched Mifuyu from Okita (I hugely think this is Okita's stupidity and major plot mover anyway), had affair with the secretary(? - who really cares what she does, she's hot, sexy, always in tight skirt and yes she bangs the boss), and tried to sabotage the current director. However, despite being that greedy and such an asshole, he's so bloody insecure when Okita come to the picture, always spying over Okita and Mifuyu (that's what you get when you snatching somebody else's), furthermore when the Director (Mifuyu's dad) shows favor towards Okita (so why the hell he shipped Okita to Seattle? another plot mover). But what about Okita? His character is consistent up until now, stay through to what he's doing, not caring about politics and the corporate ladder, just honing his surgerical skills and basically saving patients left and right. And Mifuyu? Same, being a good mother to a cute daughter (emphasizing how an asshole Masao is), a caring doctor but still not sure on what role she should be playing in the team, given that she's the director's daughter, plus she's sick. The 2 leads only starts moving in this episode 5, Mifuyu dropping hints on why Okita 'left' her, when did Okita 'dumped' her. Okita had that look (you know what kind of look I'm talking about) when looking at Mifuyu. It's not so obvious in epi 1-4, so subtle, but gradually we see that 'look.' That's why I say, Kimutaku still has it! Or, I'm just biased and have too much imagination, yeah!

I do worry that if this is a 10 episode drama, the story development is too rush. We have so many things going on at the same time: the regular cases which raise lots of ethical questions (something that J-dorama is really good at), the big elephant medical case (Mifuyu's), the possible loveline (which I really dunno where it'll end up --> are we going to support furin here? TBS you better think carefully, we're talking about the PRIDE couple here, lots of fans will bash you (me included) if Mifuyu stick to Masao after you show him being such an asshole, on the other hand if Okita snatch Mifuyu back, what does that mean? Furin is OK in the name of love? What about the kid? OMG, so messy). I don't understand why they don't just make Mifuyu engaged to Masao, instead married with children, that'll be less messier, but off course, more predictable. If this is a 16 episode K-drama, I can see the more juicy and angst come to play because they have the length, I'd think even 12 episode J-drama should be enough to make some main plot ellaborate. Up until epi 5, we just have the main plot looking like the background instead of being the main. So, we'll see how it goes from epi 6, Mifuyu now knows that she's screwed with the tumour and demand answer on why the hell Okita 'dumped' her. I don't think he ever dumped her nor he ever stopped loving her. Drama we need more episodes!!!

Tokyo Tarareba Musume Epi 1

Obviously I'm still stressed, my workload just trippled after 1 meeting and I have a migraine now (probably need to sleep soon). So, I thought might as well pick up another dorama to rant my stress out. At the rate we're going there're so many j-dorama with almost the same (I refuse to use the word similar) theme anyway. And this one, yes, still within the same theme. Rinko has this fear that she'll be alone by 2020 (Tokyo olympic) as if having a dude next to you will guarantee happiness, oh well, this is the essence of shoujo manga anyway. She has this ideals on what kind of dude that she wants (the typical prince charming type) that she rejected her colleague, which she nicknamed dasai-kun, 8 years ago under the premise that he's well... lame. Fastforward to the present, with 3 years down the road to Tokyo Olympic and still single, she's now worried that maybe she'll be alone forever, with the tara and reba psycho-ing her when she's drunk into this thoughts. Dasai-kun that she turned down turn out to be quite a catchy dude, and after 8 years, she actually feels that she enjoys his company. But alas, he'd moved on to another YOUNGER girl (why it always have to be younger, it's beyond me, too typical). And to make it worse, the ladies are sort of turned down in a drink to meet dudes place because the dudes choose YOUNGER girls (the 20s generation). Plus there's this blonde dude who kept poking their conscience over their drinking and ranting session (well, everybody need one, so I don't really get his issue, but anyway, this is the plot and we just let it flow as is).

Surprisingly I enjoy this drama despite the theme though I won't say this drama is J-version of Sex and the City (where's the sexy stuff? ZERO, NONE, don't misslead people please!). At the same time, I'd like to say, EDITING and PRESENTATION is important of the drama. This drama has the same concept of girls better be married to be 'happy', but it doesn't come as offensive as Totsuzen desuga Ashita Kekkonshimasu because exactly of these 2 aspects. Sure it's not the super magical drama, J-drama romcom magic has long gone by now. The way drama goes now is trying to play around with the more realistic aspect of girls have conditions to pick their dudes and it's even said that it's okay to have a loveless marriage, so long the dude doesn't go playing around (I think one of the girls in Totsuzen said this). I bet that this is a taboo in the old rabu rabu theme drama. But at the same time it shows something from the social aspect, the fear of being lonely in the society is real. Why people want to get married? Why they want to have family? There's no guarantee of happiness in marriage, you have to work the relationship and put in tons of effort to make it work as well, and it has to be 2 ways. Plus what's the guarantee that people will stick together high and low, there must be a pull factor, which in lots of cases is love.

I probably will have more things to say after I watched more episodes, for now I'd stick with this drama.

Totsuzen desu ga Ashita Kekkonshimasu Epi 2-3

and by episode 3, I still haven't seen Nanami said 'You're find whatever you're now'. Wait, why am I still watching this after ranting so much in episode 1? Oh right, because I got nothing else to watch and I'm stressed and I need to blah my stress through something writable, and this drama gives the perfect condition for ranting, LMAO.

They finally throw in Ono x Rio line, but in a very unsignificant and nonchalant way, which is quite disappointing to me. Instead they up the scenes of Asuka and Kamiya, which is OK, understandable because second lead must have a bit more screentime, yeah? But why Kamiya is not that good looking? Or is it just my perception of good looking is the likes of shoujo manga, nevermind, still thinks not good looking enough.

I don't really understand that up till episode 3, there's still that awkwardness lingers when Asuka has that alone time with Nanami or in the regular dialogues as well. Intentional? Or just because the dialogue flow are choppy (which some part are choppy) because it's definitely not the chemistry. I like the way Nanami looks at Asuka, it's similar to the manga, and it gives you feels (try my best not to bloody compare with the way So looks at Soo, I'm just killing myself over this la). But I just can't let go the fact that they spent a night together and there's no pillow talk or whatever. I thought the government is encouraging young couples to make babies (hence those marriage propaganda), and there's a reason for Getsu9 being Getsu9 because of the rabu rabu theme, but the lack of bed scenes kind of contradict everything? WTH is wrong with you J-dorama, is this part of the passive agressive culture thing? If you don't want to show the whole bed scene but at least the afterwards scene will do, and have that bloody pillow talk. Take PRIDE for example, the bet scene is just the morning after, and have Haru kissed Aki, and that already gives so many FEELS. And there're ain't any Johnny's in this drama, so what's the apprehension? Wait until so later episode? How later? I'd expect this to happen in epi 6, if they decided to have that Nanami suddenly had to go to Hokkaido for a shoot plot, or are they going to change the whole setting? They've changed a lot so far, so won't be surprised anymore.

And to think that the next season is Aiba-chan's drama.... another weird tantei drama, Aiba-chan need some major romcom, I think he can pull it off but I dunno if Johnny's try to market his 'innocent and cute' image forever, which is no longer appropriate anymore tbh, come on, he's a man now and he looks freaking smexy sometimes (if he's not too thin).

Ahhh, I feel better now, going to have a work call soon.. time to ommmmm...

Totsuzen desu ga Ashita Kekkonshimasu Epi 1, Tomorrow for You Epi 3-4, Chief Kim Epi 1-3

Totsuzen desu ga Ashita Kekkonshimasu Epi 1

OK, I read the manga (not all, only those that already been translated) and I like the premise because the marriage theme is not as repulsive as I thought it would be. The relationship develop nicely with the right pace while the battle of value is explained clearly (everybody has different opinion and that's fine as long as it's not shoved over to the reader's brain). But, what did FujiTV do? They butcher the whole thing and this is just the first episode! The opening is 100% looks like a propaganda with Asuka narrating people's current opinions on marriage, and hers is 'I want to get married and become a housewife'. I like Asuka in the manga because though she has that mindset of getting married and becoming a housewife as a goal, but she's not mulling over this as literally the goal, the manga makes Asuka being heartbroken on the emotional level (there's love being broken in here) so that it's compelling, while the drama emphasize Asuka getting her 'goal' crushed because of the breakup, wtf FujiTV. The most infuriating part in this first episode is they cut this phrase 'You're fine as the way you are now' supposedly said by Nanami when he comforts the heartbroken Asuka. Without this, the drama is just about 'girls find happiness by getting married', MY ASS! This is why divorce rate is high (as Nanami points out), it's not wrong to get married, but it's terribly wrong thinking you'll find happiness if you get married. SMH with you propaganda FujiTV!!! That's not what the manga trying to tell because the manga direction is more like finding compromise in between aka the characters' mindset supposed to change and get to the direction whereby you get married with the person you love (where the rabu rabu story supposed to be). I like Nishiuchi Mariya and I'm happy that she gets the Getsu9 lead role, but I'm mad at how they made Asuka character semi bimbotic here, grrrr!!! More points to rant, they made Asuka still lives in her parents house, so how they supposed to get Asuka x Nanami rabu rabu moments??? Why can't they just follow the bloody damn manga? Why it's so difficult? And! Why the make Mikami looks like a stupid comedic role? I like Sawamura Ikki, but it's time he should be playing cool supporting role, which is what Mikami should be. Next, who the hell is that 3rd girl? That's a completely not necessary extra character, just so that we have a match for Mikami? Heck, we not supposed to know anything about Mikami, he's supposed to be just the cool Nanami's guardian! And don't get me started with Ono. Are we going to get Ono x Rio line? Ono x Rio is the reversed role (and comparison) for Nanami x Asuka, if there's no Ono x Rio, then WTF are we watching? I HATE YOU FUJITV! It seems that rabu2 drama magic ends the moment Kimutaku not doing Getsu9 drama. Sigh.

Tomorrow for You Epi 3-4

FujiTV really need to learn from TVN in making romcom. I enjoy this drama much more despite SoJoon is still an asshole. Him chasing MaRin is definitely not love here --> we'll see this going into the huge hell of a mess in the next episodes, will this be more messier than Another Miss Oh's mess, and I'll have high expectation on this. This time travel thing will soon become a boomerang for SoJoon, in both love and business. I'm hoping for a happy end (if Another Miss Oh gets a happy end, I'll be damn if this one is not LOL), with tons of angst in between (SoJoon's future self telling his current self to treat MaRin right is the huge indication). The drama never escapes from the annoying characters, MaRin's mom makes me boil in anger (I fast forward her scenes), GunSook *the bitch 'friend'* needs to get laid more often by her busy husband. She didn't even come to the wedding, drama only shows the husband!!! More drama coming up as I can feel the storm is brewing.

Chief Kim Epi 1-3

Drama on accountants and accounting frauds? Oh Yes. The male lead is an asshole, the female lead is self rightous (not sure whether she'll become a liability later), the bad guy is an asshole but a smart asshole. So it's the battle of scheming strategy on how to embezzle money. Drama! I'm slightly concerned that this is KBS, they don't have a good track record in my book, but I'm willing to try because the premise is interesting and there're more shits yet to be revealed.

Tomorrow with You Epi 1-2 & Winter 2017 J-drama

Tomorrow with You Epi 1-2

Whoaa, I find that TVN really lives up to their slogan: TVN - Content Trend Leader. They really beef up their drama, and I realized lots of the drama that I liked actually done by TVN (when I don't really watch it for a particular dude, ehem). After Goblin (this will remain at the top and I foresee it'll be for quite awhile), they serve us this drama, Tomorrow with You. Like lots of other people already mentioned, the theme somewhat similar to Queen Inhyeon's Man, time travel. However, beneath that theme, the content has that Another Miss Oh's feels, maybe due to the season as well (Valentine is near, so we're gearing towards the romance thingy). Episode 1 threw in lots of question marks, the mysteries, as we knew the connection from observer's point of view, but not the characters'. Episode 2 reveals that connection, both SoJoon & MaRin were the survivor of the subway incident 7 years ago. While SoJoon became a time traveller from that accident, MaRin though she was reborn and tried to live her life again. The concept alone is interesting, SoJoon's time travelling purpose & concept is completely different from Kim BoongDo's from Queen Inhyeon's Man. Then comes the girl, MaRin, the child actress who no longer in the entertainment business, but kept on living under scrutiny of online articles making fun of her, and in turn public talking about her, not in a good way. And yes, off course we have the rich dude vs poor girl thingy, but at least these days the drama kind of stretch this out a little bit, not blatantly throw this concept to the audience like their past counterparts. How this drama fare in the next episodes? I'll be following this, unless there're other interesting k-drama, I'll be only watching this one and will be forever bitter with the 'what if TVN is the one doing that harem drama?' --> damn, I'll never get out from this bottomless pit.

What about J-drama?
Well, the list is up in amara, but I'l probably only follow the below (and waiting for subs because my brain refuse to work after office hours):

Totsuzen desuga, Ashita Kekkonshimasu ~ heh, another live action. Need to read the manga then decide whether it's good enough. Again, I don't really like this theme of 'girls feels the need or want to get married'. The older I get, the more I got miffed with this concept. It's not romantic, it's more of propaganda, and hell, we don't need to get married to be happy, that's wrong!

Tokyo Tarareba Musume ~ Yoshitaka Yuriko is back! But again, the same theme 'girls + marriage.' I'm crossing finger that they don't push this button too much, else, and instead focus on the girls and their life struggles.

A Life ~ TBS, Kimutaku x Takeuchi Yuuko (PRIDE couple), medical. Watching this, whether this can exceed Karei naru Ichizoku, very very unlikely, but better than nothing at all. They try to throw in that old flame blooming, though I'm very skeptical on how they handle the ethics and morality points in the drama, most likely to be glazed over anyway and I should not be so critical when watching drama, it's not healthy, must keep the point of just watch the bloody damn thing and enjoy it, but it's difficult when they try to inject the emo k-drama feels into it when J-drama style is very different. It doesn't work in You're Beautiful J-version, hence even weirder in the more serious bigger scale drama.

Quartet ~ Matsu Takako, period.

Ubai Ai, Fuyu ~ I don't understand with J-drama. It's now either the 'girl wanting to get married' or 'the extra-marital affair'. What are these TV stations trying to get across? The romance point seems forced (anything taboo is romantic... works in anime, but in drama? It gets old, fast, especially if it's one drama after another, hell we have Saito Takumi resume full of these love affair theme drama).

Stash bucket:
Mahiru no Akuma ~ I like Tanaka Rena, but damn this one looks so gloomy :(

Cain & Abel epi 4 - 7, Goblin epi 5-7, Romantic Doctor epi 13-14 & Hwarang epi 1-3

Cain & Abel epi 4-7

Out of so many drama this Fall 2016, I think I end up looking forward to this one the most. There're some chops in Ryuichi's monologues (I think around episode 6 that I feel the most that it sounds like a plot hole, and this is one of the rare moments where I wish J-drama is having more episodes, so that the story flows better and not choppy), but nevermind, this is just a minor thing that somehow my pettiness just picked up. If we look back from the beginning of the episode, the first 2 episode is quite slow, and it just picked up when Yu starts to get more work aka work harder and getting more confidence while Ryuichi is going down mentally. Love the progressiveness of how Yamada portrayed Yu character. You can see the increasing of confidence level and changes in Yu as a whole (whether this is going to be good or bad). And I find this is to be more interesting than watching Doctor X for now.

Goblin epi 5-7

This beautiful drama is going to get more angsty soon. So we have to savour all the cute and adorbs bromance which are overflowing right now. The honorary mention goes to Grim Reaper with video calls and his hung up on business card (this goes for more than 1 episode LOL). Goblin being jealous is also another funny intake but what's better than Goblin watching Train to Busan (his own movie) and got the scared shit out of it in the most embarassing way.
Though this drama is pretty, with beautiful backdrops, cinematography, fabulous OST and good looking people and also fantastic acting, it doesn't make me emotionally attached to wanting the next episode pronto (side eyeing that harem drama) and it doesn't make me mulling over the characters too (THANK GOODNESS, I got a life to live). So, I guess I can enjoy watching this drama with more freedom and appreciation ;).

Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim epi 13-14

So it takes over 11 episode for the stupid doctor to be less stupid, and it takes 13 episodes for us to see the kissing scene again, no wonder they're dangling us with carrot (that hot kissing scene) in epi 1. Skip lots of non sense, especially with those scenes with Director Do, and off course when Kand Dong Joo being stupid.

Hwarang epi 1-3

Hmm... not as impressive as I'd think. I'm more frustrated watching this than watching Romantic Doctor, tbh. The political portion is more interesting than watching the pretty people (gasp), and probably the problem is the pretty people is not that super pretty as described (or maybe I just have different preferrences). Up till epi 3, I still don't know the characters names, and the main character is blindly taking revenge and not thinking aka rather stupid. Yes, his best friend was killed in front of him, but to direct your sword against the queen just like that, seriously??? really??? Looks like writer-nim just trying to get an easy way out to move the plot and create more angst. Even So knows when to direct his sword despite all his train wreck issues (and yes I still reference whatever to that harem drama and I'm not sorry).

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo Epi 1-2, Cain & Abel Epi 1-2

Weighligting Fairy Kim Bok Joo Epi 1-2

This drama is so pastel, cute and fluffy... hope there won't be so much angst, but hey, what's angst after that harem drama? LOL. If Baek Ah not getting any happiness in that harem drama, he will get his in this drama, I'm 99.999% sure of it. And Baek Ah is really an eye candy (I can't remember his character name here, and Baek Ah is still easier to remember, maybe after few more episode I'll remember his name LOL), that 8 packs is a sight to behold. I love the LJS cameo scene in epi 2, they did a good job in making the W reference, from him being the shooter, the dialog is done with Yeon Joo's senior, and the reference that he looks like manga character, plus the W OST at the background, really nicely done! And the girls are so cute (the weightlifting team, not the bitchy gymnastic team). Their love for food is over the top, and I hope this don't change in the future episodes.

Cain & Abel Epi 1-2

This drama will have lots of angst brewing, especially after epi 2 when Yu found out that his big bro is going out with Azusa. There'll potentially 1 bitch in this drama, Yu's friend (that friend who's trying to get his attention and seemingly good would probably become a liability later), I already don't like her from the get go, but we'll see. I'm looking forward on Yu's character development. In this first 2 episode, he's just running around trying to do his job, overcoming the challanges without sit back and have some changing enlightment, but I'd think episode 3 will show this and I want to see Yamada's angst!!! I hope there's no rabu2 scene in this drama because I just can't imagine it, nope, no, I just can't. Somehow I'm scared with rabu2 scene for j-drama especially if Johnny's boys are the leads (only a few, and I really mean A FEW, only can be count by 1 hand okay, are the exceptions).

I'm holding back from watching Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim because I can't take the main lead's idiocy, I'll wait until he's not that idiot (my friend is watching so he'll tell me when it's time to watch again LOL). And I'm droping that Sweet Stranger something, as much as I like to see Lee So Hyuk, but spending time on that drama? I'd rather read more harem drama fanfic...

Sweet Stranger & Me Epi 1, Aragaki Yui's drama Epi 2 & Doctor X S4 Epi 1

Sweet Stranger and Me Epi 1 & 2

Lee Soo Hyuk brought me into this drama and he still looks pretty much like Gwi in modern times (OK, Gwi didn't die after that fight with Yeon Seol, he lives for another thousand years, that makes a perfect sense). The phase is not bad and the story itself is not 100% new (the concept is kind of similar to Yan Papa but off course Yan Papa is a more family focused drama, not a romance one. There's at least another one in Jdorama realm but I can't think of the title at the moment). But regardless, I got to say that this drama is hella entertaining, a stress relief from that harem drama but only to realize that Queen Hwangbo is in here as well as Duk Bong's secretary (who basically rolls eyes at her employer almost all the time LOL). We'll probably see a number of angst in the latter episodes (but hey, what's angst after watching that harem drama LOL). In the meantime, there're lots of funny scenes from each episode eg. when NanGil lifted up NaRi with Whitney Houston's BGM queue (and I will alwayyyss loooveee youuuuu, OMG, that's just hillarious), or the doctor was concerned with Duk Bong's 'paleness', or any bickering scenes of the 'father' and daughter. They're enough to make you smile. So unless the annoying girl gets too annoying (yes, there's this shameless girl whose goal is to just wreck other people's relationship aka a boyfriend thief), I don't think I'll fast forward the episode with the current phase. And lastly, when LSH going to get the girl? This is for the x number of times he ain't get the girl LOL.

Nigeru wa Hajida ga Yaku ni Tatsu Epi 2

I'm happy with this drama. It's fun to watch and it injects social opinion enough to trigger discussion on marriage & employment. In this episode, the focus is on meet the family and the pressure from society to have that wedding party. Arguments are thrown such as it's a waste of money, it's a way to tell the society 'hey, we're married now', or just simply it's the things in life that you do. Each options are explored and weighed by our main couple. What I like here, they discussed things together, and both gave opinions and not holding back at it, but I'm not sure whether this will continue when they add on jealousy into equation LOL. There's also the snippets of discussion between marriage and carrier between Mikuri and her mom, which I found it makes perfect sense. After all, the marriage itself is very sudden, and it's natural that the mother questions what Mikuri wants to do with her carrier. But from this episode, what I like the most is when Tsuzaki & Mikuri had dinner and Tsuzaki was concerned that Mikuri couldn't sleep, and he said this: A workplace is not made with the employees' effort alone. The employers also have to put in effort. I completely agree on this. This is something that lots of companies seem to neglect, they put in tons of KPI, expectations on employee but turn sideways on what the employee actually needs and this reflects on the company culture and office environment. So relatable that I applaud the script writer for this. Can't wait for the next episode, we're going to see that how the 3rd party will affect this marriage contract XD.

Doctor X Season 4 Epi 1

We're at the 4th season already and as expected with any Doctor X series, Daimon Michiko kicks ass, again, and Himura is the director now after was almost relieved from his position, wait, he even moved up because of the last minute dirty game LOL. And why Ebina was not in Doctor X this time? It's because he's staring in the other drama with Amami Yuki LOL! Now, when are we going to get Hanzawa Naoki season 2 or Legal High season 3? It's a bit long overdue, don't you think? Oh I almost forgot, we have to wait until Sakai Masato finished the taiga haha...

And tomorrow... epi 19... it'll be angst, angst, angst, and more angst... gah!!!

IQ246 Epi 1

Ah! This is why I love Fall season, it doesn't disappoint. To be honest, this one is much more engaging than Carrier (but I'd still watch Carrier for Tamaki, unless it's very very very boring). The case presented is much more complicated and it's kind of like Poirot style of deduction, so much details and coincidence which we have to catch in order to piece everything together and create the connection between the criminal and the case. I'm quite indifferent with Tsuchiya Tao, but I totally like Dean Fujioka in here. He doesn't look like he's trying too hard here and he looks good as a butler <3. Yuji Oda's character in here as the eccentric Homonji reminds me of Kaibutsu-kun, but at least Kaibutsu-kun doesn't come accross as annoying as Homonji. He's annoying and rude, but the way he catches on details and deduction will keep you glued to the screen. Definitely will keep on watching this.

Now, what else should I watch? O yeah, Doctor X LOL. I need a dose of 'I don't fail'.

Fantastic Epi 16, Career Epi 2, Aragaki Yui's drama Epi 1 & That Harem Drama Epi 16-17

Fantastic Epi 16

Well, that's another good balance drama. I skipped a lot for this drama especially the superbly evil family scene, and I cheered when Baek Seol finally yelled at the a$$hole husband over the phone, and yey for Attorney Kim to get his happy end. I feel content watching this ending alone. And against all odds, our main cancer patient survived the ordeal, I'm a bit contemplated on this, yes, I'm happy with the happy end and it gives hope and all the good stuffs, but at the same time, not all cancer patients survive and thrive against all odds. However, that might be, the journey is fun and delightful to watch. They put all emotions in all together in every episodes and deliver it with a much lighter way (well, if you compare it with the harem drama.... so... yeah). I'm a bit worried about JiSoo though, yes, it's good that he's everywhere now, but I kind of feel that his roles are about the same, from angry mom, harem drama, and now this. Only a slight difference, but at the end of the day the delivery is about the same, the awkwardness, the charging ahead, well, the look and feel is the same. Is it maybe because they're all side characters that there's not much room to really grow the character or it's just the roles personalities that he took in are about the same in a way. I look forward for something different, the kid is eye candy with potential <3.

Career Epi 2

As we move on to episode 2, I kind of warm up to Tamaki's character, sort of let go the annoyance of 'try too hard to be friendly and lowkey' vibes on his character, and I surely hope they put a stop of the shining light effect everytime Chief Toyama flashed out his police badge, the aweing plus LOL effect kind of fast turned into annoyance. I guess, we'll keep having the situation whereby there're multiple (maybe more than 2) completely unrelated minor case which will end up linked together and Chief Toyama has the eye of details to connect all those things together. In this episode, it's quite interesting and I'd hope the quality of the case will go up as we progress further. I like what the subordinate said about Chief Toyama and Minami combi, 'the perfect combination of great insight and intimidation', what a perfect description! I hope Minami will soon lighten up towards Chief Toyama because clearly Chief Toyama has a lot of cards under his sleeves, but if by Epi 4 he's still the same, I'll be majorly sighteyeing the writers!

Nigeru wa Hajida ga Yaku ni Tatsu Epi 1

Damn, the title sure is long! I watched this to get away from that harem drama withdrawal syndrome, and this is sure a great relief. Light and non-damaging at all. Well, at least this is the life action from a josei manga, not some shoujo manga (we have too many of those already). The story is about exploring the idea of marriage as an employment contract, meaning the husband employs the wife as a housewife, and gives her the salary she's entitled from all the housework done. I like the approach of this drama, they make it look like Jonetsu Tairiku style to introduce the characters' background. While it's all fun and all that, I do wonder what's the message from this drama. The main character, Mikuri, though a university graduate, couldn't find a proper full time job and ended up with a temp job and just got laid off. Having nowhere to go, she accepted the part time job as a cleaner for Tsuzaki, our main dude. The proposal for the marriage contract looks like the runaway ticket for Mikuri against reality. So what this drama is trying to tell the audience, get married if cannot find a job? I haven't read the manga yet, kind of tired if I have to read the manga for all the live action drama. But, I do hope that they're going to have Mikuri's character grow to have more backbone and face the tough job hunting field.

That harem drama Epi 16-17

Ah, the drama which has consumed me for the past few weeks, and I'll have a major withdrawal syndrome once this drama ends next week. Gosh, it's only left with 3 more episodes and there's only angst, angst, and angst, well, with carrot dressed in diamonds for epi 16, if I should say. The drama is telling us that we, audience, should be greatful for any hint of cuteness of our main OTP SoxSoo while butcher our hearts by eg. killing off the most innocent characters of them all and to make it worse made the precious pup did the dirty job. To add to our list of angst, we have the break out, the wait, and rejection coming our way before the carrot dressed in diamonds is presented in like... 6 minutes screen time, and yes, we, audience, will still eat it up and crave for somemore angst. Epi 17 is just brewing more angst for Epi 18 (kind of dread of what's coming, esp with the preview of precious pup crying, he's been through A LOT, apparently not enough for the sadist writers to torture this character). Well, in the meantime, I'll just fill myself with lots of fluff fanfic of SoxSoo, if they don't get the happy end, there're tons of fanfic ready to be unleashed to satisfy the thirst for the happy end LOL. And after all these, by now all the snakes in the palace are still alive and well and are out to eat up our precious OTP, noooo!!! I'm still clinging on the 'the journey will be painful but it'll have a happy end', but Gwanjong with eyeliner kinds of make me waver, damn!

Oh the implied meaning... LOL...
