Happy Birthday to Miracle Boy!
Dec. 23rd, 2013 11:20 pmI've skipped Matsujun & Ohno's b'day posts because... I just become busy for the past few months for... not sure what I'm doing, but I just don't have much luxury of thinking, pondering and writing posts :(. But at the very least I just have to make an effort for Aiba-chan's, to thank him for all the laughters, LOL, and smiles (even after a long day of business trip or meetings) that I had this year. Especially thanks to Aiba Manabu that I get to learn A LOT of random things though my back log of screencaping activity keeps on increasing as weeks go by. There're onigiri, tamagoyaki, oden, and the latest greatest, karaage episodes to cap. Man, they really make him do the dirty job so often, for our enjoyment, definitely!
Usually I do drama review for b'day post. But Aiba-chan's resume for drama... sadly it's incredibly short, compared to his fellow member, Nino & Matsujun. Even Sho-chan & Ohno has a much longer drama list (from SP and such), but not for the sunshine boy. Other than Arashi movie series, 4 dramas where he's the lead, the rest of his resume consists of small roles, where he only had more screen time on 1 episode from the whole series. Moreover, lots of his small roles are quite forgettable as in not really outstanding from the script point of view. Maybe this is one of the reason that he's always overlooked and criticized over his not so Oscar worthy acting performance. It's the fact that he's not the best actor (it's Nino's job, not his), and his acting skill will not warrant him for any award, well, except for popularity award. But, if you look at his journey, his old drama roles up till now, you'll see that the boy does grow and you can always expect the ganbaru spirit from his performance. He worked on what's given to him to his best ability, not because of talent, but hardwork, and that's why you always see improvement over the years.
The earliest archive I have on Aiba-chan's resume is...
P.P.O.I~ LOL!!! I can't even finish watching the first episode, hence I only have the first episode in my archive. If I look at this drama, I always feel that the current Jrs have it tough. They're measured in much higher standard compared to their senpais. Hence you get better Jrs drama like 49 (I didn't watch Bad Boys, only glimpses of it, but even that is much better than P.P.O.I).

Oh so stiff! LOL, but then again, at this age, Nino was also stiff! So everybody started off at about the same footing! I'd think Nino's acting improved quite fast due to exposure (his drama list is damn long!) and he's also interested in it. Not the same case for Aiba-chan though.
Mukodono! ~ This one is Nagase's drama and I didn't even know Aiba-chan was in it only until I get to know Arashi more, hence this old drama makes its way to my Arashi archive, ha! In this drama, Aiba-chan has more screen time than the other dramas, probably due to the Johnny's tagging, though it's not as obvious as nowadays. So, we skip to the Aiba-chan's episode where his beloved sensei turned out to be a hostess hehe...

How on earth this boy can have a damn straight nose... gah!!! His role is more of...

awkward teenager who's being dotted by his mom huehehe...

and off course, what mom won't dot on this kind of cute son?
If you haven't watched Mukodono before, do watch it. It's a total stress relief where every episode is full of laughter and that much thanks to Nagase :).
Yankee Bokou ni Kaeru ~ I couldn't remember in which part Aiba-chan showed up in Yoiko no Mikata so I skip it to this drama, which I happened to like and watch because of Takenouchi Yutaka. This one is a good drama too, inspired by true story. You also get to see the bullying series here too (it's a school drama so ijime plot is a must). So, Aiba-chan was in this drama as...???

Yeah, an annoying sucking up new rookie teacher! He looks so much older in black long hair, but still too young to be a teacher, even for a rookie, hence he's not convincing enough, but he's so eye candy here and have a very little screen time so it's forgivable XD... and his acting improved here too, a plus point.

My favorite scene haha... auntie killer!

And the not loved by aunties huehehe... I smile every time I re-watch this scene. LOL
Triple Kitchen ~ Again, in here, he had a very very small role but still a funny one. He's basically married young here, quit his job and became a NEET, wrote a blog and bang, his blog was sold for a drama. XD

Oops, Aiba-chan hand was pinned down as everybody thought he's a dorobo.

This drama kind of proof that Aiba-chan can pull off any kind of hair style and look cute in it. His acting here is not much noticeable, well, his role here is not given that much highlight either. But do watch this SP for the fun, you get to see the household banter between the monster mother in law and main lead XD.
So, that's the glimpses of Aiba-chan's journey in the dramaland. He's far improved now compare to where he started off, though not at Nino's or Matsujun's level, but he's improved on his own phase. Everybody has their own specialties and drama is not Aiba-chan's. We all know he shines the best in variety, but that doesn't mean that his acting is bad. I'd think people who're long enough in entertainment world somehow someway will garner a certain level of acting skill because I'm pretty sure Aiba-chan's not a tennen in real life.
With it, Happy birthday Sunshine boy! May you fill our TV with laughter and joy, being from Shiyagare, VS Arashi, Tensai, Manabu and any other varieties out there and for TV station to bless you with good scripted drama so that you can show to the world the improved Aiba-chan acting skill (ehem, I want a super bright and sunny rom-com drama for summer, I think you'll shine in this genre andI bet you can do a kissing scene better than Nino). Having said that, I hope grandpa Johnny gives you some days-off in the midst of your busy schedule because you still have your life too and you definitely deserve it!
And I leave this post with the gif that I stole from tumblr. Can't resist the cuteness!!!
