Just finished watching this drama quite some time ago. Quite a late bloomer as usual (this is a 2009 drama, and heard the OST gazillion times in my MP3 player), I suddenly interested in watching this drama though I'm not really a fan of Ohno's drama (reason why take me so long to watch this one), but I can say I like this drama better than Kaibutsu-kun. I find this drama is aimed for a larger group of audience, not just restricted to fangirls. This can clearly be seen from the setting itself, a production of children show.
The drama is about Yano Kenta's life. Having lost his band members, his girlfriend and his job at one go, he basically lost everything. So, off he went to search for new job and landed a singing job as Uta no Oniisan's singing friend by mistake (he just went to the wrong interview next door). But little did he know, Kenta started to adjust himself to his new job and actually learn a lot about life while having interaction with the kids, and with that he become a more mature person.
What I like about this drama is that it gives out lots of lessons about life in a very subtle way. Messages like 'Don't give up,' 'Be yourself,' 'Work hard towards your dream and surely it'll come true,' etc resonnance throughout the whole drama. And through Kenta character, you'll learn that people change, adapt, and in Kenta's case, he realizes what he actually wants to be during the process. Set aside the heavy point, since this is family drama, there're plenty of humours in it. We have lots of over the top supporting characters (from Prince Himuro, Urara, to Kenta's family), which makes Kenta looks actually 'normal'. Funny scenes can be found all over the place but my favorite will be when Urara catches Kenta to pretend to be her boyfriend for her matchmaking session while Kenta himself is pipping on his sister's matchmaking session. Or, when Sakurai Sho to do guest appearance on the show as star of Yatterman, and in this world Yatterman is more famous than Uta no oniisan hence triggers Kenta's childish behaviour. And it's natural that Kenta has to make reference that he looks a lot like Arashi's Leader (duh, LOL). Lastly, one very important item that the children show must have is the Uta no Oniisan's animal costumes. We have bears, dogs, crows, rabbits, and even acorns and loaches (this will refer to one of Japanese nursery stories).
If you feel like watching a heartwarming light drama with lots of cute animal costumes and you want to watch this with your kids, this drama will be a good choice. You can explain those life value lessons to them with the refference of the drama because surely the kids will question why Kenta behaves like this or that.
No fangirling in here but Ohno is a good actor, and he can sing (さすが、リーダー)...
