Last Hope at Sixth Episode

To be honest, I'm dreading making the caps from this episode, and even plan to just skip this, but then, it won't look nice when I filter my journal (I like my collection to be complete) LOL... The dreading part comes because of 2 reasons. 1. I think this episode is rather bland compare to the others, not much of pretty Hatano sensei in here too. 2. The medical terms... OMG, it's so many to the point that it's scary Seriously, I'd rather wait for the subs than making the effort to understand it myself... which is why you won't see much of writing later...
However, in this episode (which is why I feel that I still have to make pretties from this episode), we have the interesting argument about what to choose, patient's wish or patient's life? What is your stand as a doctor? Also, you'll see gradually there's a change in Tachibana sensei (thanks to Hatano sensei's influence), she's becoming slightly more humane, without compromising her personality. She gets to see things from patient's point of view, not only her point of view, which is to save life.

It's an honor for Soejima to enter the team as the head section said. But Soejima decided to join because of 3 reasons. 1 official and 2 not so official. Not going to wrack my brain more for this (I'll wait for subs), but something to do with Japanese medical systems and treatment as a field and its problems.

Cute doctor + pretty doctor.... why no romance? *slap slap*

The patient of the day, the genius photographer, Shinoda Toshio. He's been bounced from 6 hospitals due to the severe brain tumor that he has. No patients thus far survived from the illness.

As the result of the tumour, he can't see now aka blinded and was told that he only has 3 months to live.
He'd like to know the conclusion from the doctors of this center whether he can recover or not. Chance of slim or almost none, but the doctors not giving up. Then they got cut off by the patient. He's glad to know that chance of recovery almost zero so he can prepare for it but he'd like to have his eyes cured, at the very least. He value his eyes better than his live. Why? He'd like to take last pictures before he died.

Mommy was on death bed (?). She asked Takumi to forgive his parents... for what?... I like the face expression changing of our dear pretty doctor here... Not Oscar worthy performance, but hey, he's improving haaa...

Conference begins.. look at the purple box sitting there... that means they always hold the conference around afternoon 3pm LOL...

Sitting position is fixed and Seojima always loiter around outside the round table aka sitting on the pantry, not in his own chair. Takagi eyes ... LOL... sign of ageing?
I think this conference thus far has the most gibberish that I give up trying to understand the words (wait for the subs!!!!). I won't blame Aiba-chan for having hard time for these scenes. Seriously if we're not in medical field, it's rather hard to follow, even when it's subbed in English.

Today's desert is dorayaki. Hatano-sensei, that's a very big bite that you took.

Apparently Tachibana sensei is insisting to save his live and ignoring patient's wish. Hatano sensei is sort of not explicitly try to get Tachibana sensei see from a different perspective by giving her patient's photobook that he bought (he really have such a big appetite of curiosity).
Tachibana sensei gave in! Let's operate on the eye!
Patient was very grateful when they told him they'll operate on his eye. It's not 100% risk free operation though.

There's a certain bond between Soejima sensei and the patient. Soejima sensei seems to understand patients' wish and hope, maybe because his hobby is photography himself? The operation is the next 3 days. Chance of success is 10% but with confidence it can go up to 50% (I may be wrong here, wait for subs!!!1). There's a quote here: 'If I still have 50% of probability to live, I'll let loose and go parachuting and take picture from there' by Robert Capa.

Lo and behold, this is probably the only episode you'll see Soejima sensei doing operation and look at the footwork, so real...

And... Soejima sensei was blind in the past?

Now we know what Aiba-chan will look like if he's on disguise in public (pay attention to those guys in jeans and mask on the street folks, it could be Arashi's Aiba Masaki LOL)... OK, bit of side track, so the operation is a bloodless operation and success only can be determine whether patient can see or not when they open the bandage.

So, judgement time...

First image patient see.... pretty doctor!

Tachibana sensei's image is different from what the patient's thought... rather cute... and this is Tachibana sensei's reaction... sasuga... machine...

Patient soon requested to be brought outside to take picture...

And take Tachibana sensei's picture and he's satisfied with his life...

True enough, that's the last piece of Shinoda Toshie's life...

Awww... why the angst...

Looking for Saito Keiji's son...
You probably see this cap a lot already on Tumblr? Why? It's pretty!
Easily look like a magazine shot...

And they've met!

Date: 2013-03-10 07:21 am (UTC)Glad it helps you appreciate this drama more! From all the episodes so far, this episode is the weakest... but still need to be exist because they need Soejima to be the main point here haaa...

Date: 2013-03-12 03:09 pm (UTC)Yes ... wasn't Soejima taking photographs of the bridge at night when they all got called in for whatever the incident was that had so many emergency patients.
Maybe that's why he can understand the patient, not just the blindness thing but also the love of photography.
Also ... in Japan ... unlike in countries like America, Canada and Britain (I don't know how true this is but I heard it from a friend of mine) when doctors graduate they don't take the Hippocratic oath. So apparently there have been instances where patients have been turned away because they have been deemed 'inoperable'. So I don't know ... maybe this is the 'official'/'unoffical' reason. Therefore hospitals can say they have a higher percentage of recovery rate.
But I don't know. I could be wrong.

Date: 2013-03-12 04:06 pm (UTC)Yeah, this episode is Soejima's. He has the connection because he likes taking pictures (he didn't admit that it's his hobby though... if i'm not wrong)
Gee, it's scary to think that hospitals just keep on rejecting patients because they don't want the risk of low recovery rate... then where can we go to seek treatment? but as Soejima always said... 'it's all business'... so yeah... arguable, but yeah...
