spsnThis episode is a location shooting and it's a gem episode!
Show, you better send the sunshine boy to lots of location OUTDOOR shootings!
Another easy watching episode with tons of cuteness overload because he's extra hyper on digging those bamboo shoots.
I won't be surprise if this episode is actually his idea. His tension is just so different compare to his 1st and 2nd episodes...
Ah, they change the introduction pose, now he's coming down from stair case instead of pretending to study hehe...
So, our lesson for today is to study Japan's one of the four season, Spring. One way to do this is by digging bamboo shoots!
And digging bamboo shoots is one of Aiba-chan special skills!
I think by now we already know from so many different interviews or promos that Aiba grandpa often brought along chibi Masaki to dig bamboo shoots in the bamboo forest of Chiba and chibi Masaki loved digging bamboo shoots hehehe...
He's really bragging on this skill, literally, and he's not joking LOL!!
Japan changes season about every 3 months and to mark spring... it's...
Bamboo Shoots! Yep, it's Spring specialties. In lots of other cooking shows, though I only watch Moko's Kitchen and One Dish (yeah, ikemen cooking show LOL), when it's spring dishes, they'll choose bamboo shoots! Yummm!!!
This time, there're 3 members! I think Sawabe is our regular member, the rest can take turn aka whoever is free from Pikaru no Teiri LOL, I mean so far all of them also are regulars in Pikaru no Teiri hehehe... The other member are Takeyama and Suzuki (Ohno's fishing club member, anybody?)
Aiba-chan announced that they're going to dig bamboo shoots (from now on I"ll use takenoko because... it's shorter to type LOL)
He's really passionate about takenoko that he can become takenoko digger idol LOL.
Oh, they need to find where to dig the bamboo shoots BY THEMSELVES! Show, you're the best!!! LOL!!
Aiba-chan so naturally, 'well, it's our job' with much protest of the members, but Aiba-chan is already excited in fact, much more cheery than the first 2 episodes XD...
So, they start asking jii-chan that they met along while walking around the town... and... unfortunately this year is not a good year for takenoko digging.
Pretty Pretty!!!
Members are now questioning what if they can't get any takenoko? Taihen deshou? They need to think of another method, plan B. So Aiba-chan is suggesting if they cannot get anything in 30 minutes then they'll think of something, which is telling funny stories about takenoko, to which the protest is getting louder LOL, gold suggestion Aiba-chan, I wanna see you're doing fail gag on takenoko too hahaha...
Along the way they found some tanpopo (dandelion) and Suzuki said to make a whistle out of tanpopo stalk, to which Aiba-chan quickly does the same as well, a quick learner ne!
Ah, apparently the grass are edible too! Dandelion root is still categorized as kinpira (burdock root).
Heee... Aiba-chan doesn't know that (me: ME TOO!)
Then they're also spot some Karasunoendou (Vetch), which can eaten as tempura. Notice HOW CUTE Aiba-chan picking from the side?
Apparently Vetch can be eaten raw as well, to which Aiba-chan quickly shove the grass to Suzuki! LOL! Aiba-chan, this is your own show, if it's Arashi's, I can imagine Jun will quickly do the same to you! LOL!!
Suzuki protests but still eat it (good boy!) and it tastes... not that good XD
The notice there is saying DO NOT EAT GRASS THAT YOU DON'T KNOW LOL!
And Aiba-chan asks whether there're any grasses that you can't eat. Well, they don't have it here because the rabits and horses eat all these grasses here and Aiba-chan's reaction is... gold hehehe...
So, they keep on walking and this is just the first 6 minutes of the show. In actual, it's already 1 hour after location shooting started. They're stopping by at the tomato farm and look how round and red the tomato is... sooo nice!
Tomato is a summer veggie (tomato is a veggie or a fruit?) but they already can eat it now. I think it's because they use the glass house effect. To which the herd of boys are so happy because they're getting free food.

While eating, they're asking whether the ji-chan the main probelm where to look for takenoko, ji-chan told them to look for Tachikawa-san...
Aiba-chan, what are you doing? He really look like a 4 year old boy here... kawaii!!!! cuteness overload...
and he did this unconsciously...
Members were wondering, what the heck Aiba-chan is doing!
The boy himself surprise when he notice the other 3 were literally staring at him LOL
and the reason... he's looking for four leaves clover!!! OMG!!! how cute can he be??? I'm speechless... this boy is one of a kind!
And they're stopping at a strawberry farm. The oba-chan is raising the strawberry outdoors, not inside the glass house.
The difference between glass house and outdoor is that with glass house, from lighting to irrigation are man-made, whereas outdoor, it's all about the nature. Growing outdoor is slower by about 1 month than using glass house. So, they cannot eat the strawberry yet, zannen hehe...
So back to takenoko, they should look for Masahiko-san... another different person LOL, and another different person, ecchan!
They passing by another farm and ask the ojii-chan whether he knows anybody by Masahiko-san, and he's Masahiko! hehe
So, Aiba-chan is asking Masahiko-san to let them dig the bamboo shoots, but as previously said, this year is a bad year.
Their last hope is Tachikawa-san's place. And Aiba-chan askes the same question hehe...
So, finally they can dig bamboo shoots! Yokatta ne!
The forest is beautiful!
And the reason why 3 members? They need to form 2 teams to fight on takenoko digging. who win gets to eat, who lose gets to work XD, sasuga, show!
Since Aiba-chan is skillful, who'll be teamed with Aiba-chan? They're asking Aiba-chan to choose by...
hand shake as if they're asking a girl to go out LOL!!!!
In the end, Aiba-chan is picking Sawabe because... he's the youngest! LOL, simple!
Takenoko is very quick to grow!
From this small bamboo shoots, it only needs 10 days to grow to become a small bamboo tree.
The race starts! And another series of cuteness starts as well!
Within seconds of race starts, Aiba-chan already found 1! Sasuga!
He doesn't want to let the other team to see, so he's asking Sawabe to shoo them away LOL
Look at how cute he squat there... kawaii!!!
Sawabe is still not convinced until Aiba-chan shows him the takenoko and then he quickly proceed to dig and Sawabe... impressed LOL.
Be warned, cuteness overload because Aiba-chan + takenoko digging = hyper happy Aiba-chan!

Very enthu! and unlike the other team, he knows how deep he should dig and where they should cut.
Sweaty pretty boy... hmmm... like... XD
So, this is the result of the 2 teams, not much differences in terms of quantity, but what about quality...
And the winner is...
Aiba-chan's team!!! Why? It's where to cut the takenoko shows the skill, sasuga!
So first, they starts cleaning the takenoko, notice how serious and pretty Aiba-chan cutting his precious takenoko XD...

So, fresh takenoko should be sweet and not bitter?
To get rid of the bitterness of takenoko, you need to boil the takenoko (the whole thing) with rice bran. I saw V6 Sakamoto-kun did this in his One Dish for takenoko gohan, but I have no idea what powder he put in, and now I know XD. See, this is educational!
Another way to eat takenoko is to BBQ it with salt and tare (? what's this? my dictionary didn't register this word).
So the looser team have to make the platter from bamboo, poor boys...
Other usages of bamboo are people used to use bamboo as bentou box, as construction pillar.
Even Edison use bamboo as filament to his light bulb.
Tempura and yaki takenoko, looks so yummy!
