Aiba Manabu ~ 相葉マナブ Epi 018

The staffs probably realized that they're going to lose lots of audiences if they keep the episodes running the way the last one did, hence they go back to the simple form of Aiba Manabu format, which is great! Light, informative and educational, this should be the core of the show, and you'd probably never run out of ideas for this and maintain the budget while at that. The stuffs shown this time are actually quite random, but they're all revolved around how to make things easier in life.

They catch my attention by this second show case (I don't really care about the first one as it's only show the difference between pouring cola into coarse ice cubed and smooth ice cubes.... yeah, so?), but this! I hate watermelon (childhood trauma) but I have to admit, this is pretty cool, so how would you not to get a piece of watermelon with sporadic seeds?

vlcsnap-03915vlcsnap-03916
First, cut the watermelon into 2 from the center side, not top down cut.

vlcsnap-03917vlcsnap-03918
Then, slice the watermelon in accordance to the seeds direction and you'll get a slice of watermelon with the seeds on each side only. Heee? cool right? haha

vlcsnap-03815vlcsnap-03817
So, we're going back to studio, and today's topic is for Aiba-chan to learn how to eliminate inconvenience happening during dinner. Aiba-chan also had a question, but his is off topic and super random. Question Aiba-chan likes to make miso soup but he wonder how long should he keep that miso soup in the fridge... Heaven's voice: Maybe it's the best to eat it on the next day... LOL

vlcsnap-03818vlcsnap-03819
So the pattern here is that for every topic, we have the family on the dining table acts on the scenario and a question was thrown to the team, what's the best way to solve it, with hints off course XD.

vlcsnap-03820vlcsnap-03821
First question, how to separate egg yolk from the whites easily?

vlcsnap-03822vlcsnap-03823
Normal way is to use the egg shell or use the hand, but that's... messy...
And Sawabe being freaked out y sensei XD

vlcsnap-03825vlcsnap-03826
vlcsnap-03827vlcsnap-03829
So, we use pet bottle! Using the bottle as a mini air vacuum to suck the yolk cleanly and push it out. Me: wow, gotta try! But I find using cracked egg shell is more convenient, you just need to wash your hand later.
But more important question: WHY? The ratio of egg white: egg yolk: hull is 6:3:1. So, since it's light, it's easier to suck the egg yolk out. Hmmm...

vlcsnap-03830vlcsnap-03831
And you keep on suck in the yolk all together, which is what Aiba-chan did with so much excitement! Yeah, this is what we'd like to see! I bet Aiba-chan felt like he's back in A no Arashi, just that he's not the host.

vlcsnap-03832vlcsnap-03833
Next challenge how to heat up the food but without making the plate hot?

vlcsnap-03834vlcsnap-03835
The key is on the wrapping, but what kind of wrapping technique?

vlcsnap-03836vlcsnap-03838
First they wrapped the whole plate and it's HOT.

vlcsnap-03839
Bonus cap: Aiba-chan giggling and look geeky, nvm, it's cute LOL

vlcsnap-03840vlcsnap-03841
As to why if you cling wrap the whole thing it become hot? it's because how the microwave works itself. Microwave heat the food up from the center, so when the food is head up, it release the vapor inside the wrap and it heats up the plate too

vlcsnap-03842vlcsnap-03843
see, the heated area is getting bigger ne?

vlcsnap-03844
So the boys change how to wrap the mabo tofu...

vlcsnap-03845vlcsnap-03846
BTW, I thought we not suppose to touch the cling wrap with the food when we heat up food in the microwave due to chemical reaction, regardless whether the cling wrap is microwave saved or not?
Anyhow, you have to wrap it on the food only and leave the side open.

vlcsnap-03848vlcsnap-03849
And when you wrap it that way off course it's not hot, which is why Aiba-chan take it out with style haha... and BTW, is that a PRODUCT PLACEMENT? Hitachi! I can recognize your microwave from miles!

vlcsnap-03850vlcsnap-03851
Next question, how to pour kare gravy without dirtying your table AND not to lift up the bowl.

vlcsnap-03853vlcsnap-03854
Aiba-chan get it right on the first try! Off course, it's kare.

vlcsnap-03855vlcsnap-03856
So what you need to do is take 1 ladle and deep the ladle back, and that's it, it'll stop dropping.

vlcsnap-03857vlcsnap-03858
Explained better with animation.

vlcsnap-03859vlcsnap-03861
Well, Aiba-chan actually know the method because... well... he's the formerly spoke person of House brand apple honey curry (now it's HSJ boys advertising) LOL

vlcsnap-03862
But his gulping curry is cute too... nvm... cute is cute...

vlcsnap-03864vlcsnap-03865
They need to answer a kid wanting to have milk coffee while the whole family is having mugicha...

vlcsnap-03866vlcsnap-03868
Well, it can be done, just pour milk into mugicha with ratio 1:1 and then add on the sugar syrup, and done! Anybody wanna try?

vlcsnap-03869vlcsnap-03870
Why is that? it's because mugicha's wheat exudes a similar smell like coffee bean after roasted (well, this is sort of true because I always thought mugicha is the fake coffee, even without the milk!)

vlcsnap-03871
Happy boys when experiment is successful!

vlcsnap-03872vlcsnap-03873
Next one is another kid's annoying request (yeah, we've seen these kinds). He's requesting toro while the family only have akami (lean).

vlcsnap-03874vlcsnap-03875
It's possible! Fake toro is on the way guys! Should we be careful next time we order a toro?

vlcsnap-03876vlcsnap-03877
They ate and...

vlcsnap-03878vlcsnap-03879
Yeah, it does taste like toro... but how?

vlcsnap-03880vlcsnap-03881
Easy! Just marinate your akami with mayo for 5 hours in the fridge.

vlcsnap-03882vlcsnap-03883
Why? the fat of egg yolk is absorbed by the moisture.

vlcsnap-03884vlcsnap-03885
Another way is to dab vegetable oil, if you don't like mayo. Impressed!

vlcsnap-03886vlcsnap-03887
Next, how to eliminate the tingling sensation when you eat wasabi.

vlcsnap-03888vlcsnap-03889
Do not try this at home! Crazy! They put that much!

vlcsnap-03890
See?

vlcsnap-03891vlcsnap-03892
Solution: drink Cola!

vlcsnap-03893vlcsnap-03894
Why?

vlcsnap-03895
vlcsnap-03896vlcsnap-03897
It's because Cola has carbonic acid and sugar, which can cancel out the wasabi ingredient.

vlcsnap-03898vlcsnap-03900
So lastly, when you eat kakigori (this is so Japanese), how you prevent yourself from getting a headache?

vlcsnap-03899vlcsnap-03901
To get the effect right, they need to eat the kakigori fast.

vlcsnap-03902vlcsnap-03903
Which everybody did and the rest has that headache sensation, except...

vlcsnap-03905
Aiba-chan LOL...

vlcsnap-03906vlcsnap-03907
So, when your jaw is numb due to the cold, your nerves will send signal to your brain as cold --> pain! so to cancel that sensation out, you just place the ice bowl on your forehead to cool down the head.

vlcsnap-03908vlcsnap-03909
Which Aiba-chan has no idea as he still can get that pain sensation to try...

vlcsnap-03910
Maybe next time? hehehe...

i tried kakigori few days ago and I didn't get the pain sensation too LOL... i think if it's so hot and humid outside you don't get that numbing sensation that fast LOL... that's my conclusion hehe...
