I was busy lately... and my brain stop working by the time I get home so I most likely only can absorb things that don't require me to think so much aka with subtitle or just pure cuteness and simple nihongo. I have 2 episodes of AM that I want to do proper capping because both episodes are cute and informative (and WITHOUT TAKEYAMA). But when we have something like 3 generation of ramen evolution, I just can't resist XD.

I'll use loose translation here and only the parts that I find interesting, not going to open my dictionary because... I need to sleep in the next 3 hours to rest my back (i hate back pain, anybody can suggest good cure other than chiropractic, physiotherapy, medicated plaster, magnet plaster?)

To show how much Japanese love their ramen, we have the survey below:

vlcsnap-05075
Ramen is :
#3 of the list of dish Japanese like to eat (duh?, number one is sushi probably)
#1 of the list of menu that people don't get tired of no matter how often they eat
#1 of the list of where people go out for their lunch... hmmm... this one I totally agree because I'm one of this type too LOL

Opening gag by Yamapi: Ramen Tsukemen Boku Ikemen!
me: LOL!!! this one is so glittery (the background, the caps) haha...

vlcsnap-05078vlcsnap-05079
It's OK to do that gag because... it's Yamapi (the ikemen), imagine if it's the guy next to your cubicle doing the same gag (me: NO, hell NO). Well, according to Yamapi, he can eat ramen every day... OK, and make sure you go to gym every day too because... it's at least 600 KCal per dish (plus the fats, probably it'll go up to 2,000 KCal), but it's YUMMY!!!

Interesting stuff:
vlcsnap-05080
In the olden days (the 50s to 60s), Ramen came in the cart passing by your house at night time only (more like the satay grandpa who used to pass by my house when I was a kid, he made the best satay ever, RIP satay grandpa). They only served the Chuka soba style ramen with the standard toppings. So, for kids, it's like the sign that you've grown up when you get to taste the ramen.

vlcsnap-05081
The add-on your noodle system (kaidama) started around the 80s. How many noodles you can chug down with a bowl of ramen soup is just amazing. I think nowadays people just add rice when they finish their noodle before the soup.

As for the Mango generation, we have the doro-kei tsukemen (mud-like tsukemen), as the picture below suggest, tsukemen is the cold dried ramen that you just dip into the soup/gravy, whatever you call it. I particularly love this type, hence more elaborate caps on this because I have to document the places LOL

vlcsnap-05086vlcsnap-05085
This one is 無鉄砲つけ麺 (Mutepo Tsukemen) at Nakano ward. The menu is the Tonkotsu tsukemen. The tonkotsu broth (pork bone) is simmered for 10 hours. The topping of big chunks of charsiu, spinach and bamboo shoots are placed at the bottom of the bowl before being poured by the muddy broth... YUMMMM...

vlcsnap-05087vlcsnap-05088
Next, 666 at Setagaya ward. This shop serve the コンデンス煮干つけ麺 condense nishi tsukemen, which literally condense because the toppings don't even sink in!!! The broth is made of saba, miso and char siu blendered into paste! Literally muddy! Doro doro!

Fan girling info: apparently when grandpa Johnny said 'let's eat ramen,' it's gotta be Kyuzu tonkotsu ramen, Jangara ramen. When Yamapi went to eat jangara ramen, they play the game who can do kaidama the most (refer to the above). According to Yamapi, Kanjani8's Murakami Shingo could eat about 8 times... well... not that surprising considering those 5 dorks easily can chug down about 5 bowls of ramen (from one of the 2005 concert MC)... the skinnier they are, the more they eat... that's the scary part!

vlcsnap-05089
Sapporo miso ramen got their fame during the banana generation era when Takashimaya first time introduced it in their Tokyo main store.

vlcsnap-05090
The queuing at ramen stall thingy starts from here! From the shop where you have to stand when eating the ramen.

vlcsnap-05091vlcsnap-05092
And that shop still exists until now at Sendagaya! To get the taste of the past, you can try this ramen at Hoppu Ken.

vlcsnap-05093
The combining soup thingy come from kiwi era (the 80s). So, at that time it's a combination between the Kyuzu tonkotsu soup and Tokyo seafood soup. Nowadays, there're more combination but there gotta be a start somewhere from the past!

vlcsnap-05094vlcsnap-05095
Yamapi is so tentatively listening to the charisma ramen chef story that... just look at his face... huehehehe... basically the chef is so strict with how people have to concentrate in eating ramen that they don't allow phones etc... all for people to 'enjoy' their ramen to the fullest... that much love for ramen!

vlcsnap-05096vlcsnap-05097
So, apparently Yamapi like to add on things like koshou (pepper) on his ramen that Imada made a remark that the whole Japan's ramen shops don't like this type of person. With the reflecting face, he won't put koshou next time on his ramen LOL... *correct me if I'm wrong*

vlcsnap-05098vlcsnap-05099
More ramen combination was added up with example of this katsura tantanmen from Chiba. This looks good!!!
Yamapi comment: this ramen is spicy but he felt refreshed after the meal.

vlcsnap-05100vlcsnap-05101
Next is Mizuko stamina ramen, the topping was pork liver, kabocha
Yamapi comment: this ramen is hot and it's still hot by the time you finish eating it!

How Yamapi can comment on this? He's eaten them before during variety and drama roke shooting. Imada hinted.. with a girl? LOL!!!!

vlcsnap-05102
and the list continues!!!

vlcsnap-05103
Ramen popularity is not only among Japanese, tourists also come to Japan to eat ramen too! It's #2 on ranking below sushi! Sasuga ramen! If you survey Singaporean, it'll probably be the #1 looking at how many Japanese ramen franchise here.

vlcsnap-05105vlcsnap-05106
When we talk about chicken based ramen, it's gotta be Marutama. We have it here in Singapore, but the quality went down A LOT now, and they put tons of MSG T__T. Would need to go to the origin country to eat this now.

vlcsnap-05107
Another chicken based ramen to try is this one, Ushio (潮) at Awajicho. It's based on chicken soup plus FRESH CREAM. With the stew like soup, the topping is asparagus wrapped with sliced pork (肉巻きアスパラ ~ nikumaki asupara). Clearly women is the target customer here. Check out this entry blog. It'll definitely make you drool. This shop is a must try!!!

vlcsnap-05108
Coming from the banana era, ramen would mean Ogikubo, the ramen street.

vlcsnap-05109vlcsnap-05110
The shop from the past, again, Harukiya, and they're still at the same place from half century ago, amazing!

vlcsnap-05111
The latest trend now is you gotta go to Akibahara for ramen! Not only maid cafe, now you can get good ramen too!

vlcsnap-05113vlcsnap-05114
One of the shops to try is Mazeru, look at how big is that bowl of ramen...

vlcsnap-05115
