Watched this last Friday... yeah, you know what it means if the review comes so late LOL... and I just feel a bit obligated to write something for dear Harry because well, he's been around for decade right? So, let's get over this quickly. Ya ya ya it's the last installment of Harry Potter, but so what's the big deal?
So, part 2, resumes what part 1 had left off. Harry continued to search for the remaining Hocrux with buddies Ron and Hermoine (nothing new). Dobby the very nice elf had died honorably (blessed his soul) and Harry now wanted to infiltrate Gringots to get the next hocrux. They did it successfully with the whirlwind of action and I don't remember there's a dragon being mentioned in the book, but that's besides the point. Then they're on to the next hocrux, ehh, there are more? Have you forgotten? The You Know Who has splitted his soul into 7, so far Harry had found... err... we also lost count here, 4? The next hocrux turned out to be inside Hogwarts (what a coincidence :p), so off they go. Voldermort's croonies were everywhere when they reached Hogsmead and they're saved by Dumbledore's brother. They went into a secret passage to get into Hogwarts and the search was on. After lots of battles (yeah, You Know Who attacked the whole school) Harry managed to find the tiara hocrux (the math doesn't gel here, so I just leave it as is, no more numbers) then now he's targetting Nagini. Before he reached to Nagini, he witnessed Snape killed by Voldermort (I seriously feel sorry for Snape here). With the pensive, Harry managed to sneak peek of Snape's memory (feel more sorry for Snape) and realized that he had to die first to be able to finish off Voldermort. He did die and see the oh so shiny white platform and had a chat with Dumbledore, then to cut the story short, Harry killed Voldermort and the rest is a happily ever after. Oh oh oh, we skipped to 19 years later, Harry and the gangs have their own kids and now we're looking at the 2nd generation off their way to Hogwarts, auwww... The end.
OK, let me list down what I like first on this installment. First, minimal unnecessary scenes because they have tons of catching up to do to get to the end. It's all good because we as audience won't get confused with useless side stories and the plot just focusing to get the story finish within 2 hours. I like how they go about with the Killing Snape scene and Snape's memory. It's detailed and it shows the human side of Snape that we never thought exists for the past 10 years. Like its previous installment, HP 7.2 is also packed with action sequences and lots of CG. This time it's totally not dissapointing because, well, there are tons of battle scenes to choose from in the book itself. Though some people may say, it's not enough, I want more. Well, you can get more if Harry Potter is converted to Japanese anime (you can have your 2 seasons ala Gundam 00 series if this happens). They did quite a good job in slipping some humours too every now and then in otherwise too stressful and dark movie. Example is when Harry ask his fellow classmates to search for Hocrux, Harry: We need to find an object, small object and it's in Hogwarts. Q: what kind of object? Harry: I don't know. Q: where can we search on? Harry: I don't know. The whole herd have the 'WTF' look on their faces.
Now with the ranting. What's with the totally unnecessary kissing scenes, and during the battle scene at that? It's so awkward and I actually expecting those kissing scene in HP 7.1, which is more make sense. Who on earth will remember to vent their lust during a battle? Well apparently wizzards do. I don't like that they cut Ron's sorrow upon loosing his brother. The scene is only last like less than 1 minute, while it should be more, or I'm just emulating Gantz pattern in here (more human drama)? Then, lastly, the 19 years later scene, they can do better and not making Harry and Ron looks like... uncles while only Hermoine still looks hot?!?!?! What's with that? Yeah, Harry and Ron are dudes now, but doesn't mean that they have to look like uncles 19 years later (what happen with the term ageing by grace)? Someone should just copy Kimutaku's look and paste it on Harry.
So the bottom line is, read the book! It's much more fun and the strong point about Harry Potter books is JK Rowling describes all those scenes in the book with much much more details which left you not needing your brain to work so much to imagine those scenes aka easy reading. And, don't watch it in 3D, it'll just make you dizzy. I can't imagine what that white shiny scene will be in 3D if I already have to squint my eyes so badly with just watching the regular one.
