If you watch M-Station religiously, you'll understand better Japanese culture and trend in music. And M-Station has the corner whereby they do surveys every now and then on different generations, different genre etc etc. This is the perfect information needed by marketing people. Roughly you'll know what people like, from different generations, different era, etc etc and that's what makes out of pop culture... to me.

The 5th Sep M Topic had the corner whereby they survey primary kids what's the song that they're currently addicted to. The survey is conducted between 26th Aug to 1st Sep on 829 kids. It's not a large pool, but hey, it's still interesting.

So what are kids listening to?

Sekai no Owari gets 2 spots 7th with Starlight Parade & 6th with RPG (thanks to Crayon Shin-chan).
Yes folks, our kids generation still watch TV, notably the anime and even music shows.

On the th Spot is the latest Doraemon's OST, Himawari no Yakusoku.
Proof why kids watch music show? They know that this song is performed with the doraemon staring at the singer.

and on the 4th spot....

YES, ARASHI! They just have to be somewhere on the list.
Girls hitting puberty will LOVE Matsujun. I think this is similar across the globe as well, which is make it interesting.
Each member is hitting different market segments and they can cover quite wide range as well, sasuga.

And, GUTS! inspires this studious nerdy kid to try sports! Isn't this great?

And we have kids who're addicted to the train melody. Yes, Japan train has melody, not just peep peep peep before and after they depart and when they open/close the doors as well. NOT peep peep peep!

Kids watch youtube as well, that's how they know this 70s song. The era of internet, very different to 2 or 3 decades ago.

I think the #3 and #2 is due to the catchy song and dance step.
#3 is Dream5's Youkai Taishou
#2 is Kerakerapou no uta

And the #1 spot is... well, the #1 spot in the whole world, kids everywhere is listening to 1 song this year, different language, same song...

Boys and girls all love the same thing... FROZEN or Anna and the Ice Queen in Japanese

Ari no mama de... Matsu Takako-san's version.
One girl explained that she sees Matsu Takako on Bread CM all the time that she thought it's weird that Matsu Takako sang the song, but after listening, she thought it's beautiful XD

So we have the list here! And I bet if they survey the same kids next month, it'll be a totally different list, except for the #1 spot.

Bonus cap: I love love love this Southen All Stars performance!!! The song is Tenkou on the beach. It's a very summer song and it's something that you'll listen again 10 years later and still loving it. No wonder they're around like... forever.
and the song includes oppai LOL... with the ending Kuwata-san made a pass touching the dancer's oppai and got slapped LOL!
